NJ Firefighter Entry Exam Review Seminars
The New Jersey Civil Service Commission tentatively plans to give a new firefighter entry exam in the fall of 2026. The exam is called the Fire Service Aptitude Battery.
The exam will now be given every 2 years and is very competitive. The information that follows here should be of interest to all candidates who will be testing.
By all accounts, the most recent firefighter entry exam was very challenging! It involved 3 primary areas: Personality Assessment, Personal History (Bio-Data), and Cognitive Abilities.
In regards to the exam, the test content to be used will be dictated by the results of the Job Analyses and the test plan. Civil Service recently stated that:
- Applications are expected to be available on July 1st, 2026.
- The written exam is tentatively planned for the fall of 2026.
- Candidates will be rank ordered as a result of the written exam and placed on a hiring list.
- A required physical performance test will then be given starting with the top scoring candidates.
- The physical performance test will be pass/fail and will have no impact on the ranking.
In order to prepare candidates for the next firefighter entry exam, Bernstein Test Prep will be offering a series of paid seminars. The seminars will cover “How to Best prepare for the NJ Firefighter Entry Exam.” During the seminars, candidates will be reviewed on all areas of the firefighter entry exam. Those who attend will be fully prepared!
