I know many of you have family and friends who will be taking the 2026 NJ Fire Entry Exam. The exam is usually given every 2 years and is very competitive. The information that follows here should be of interest to all candidates who will be testing this year.
By all accounts, the NEW firefighter entry exam will be very difficult! Most candidates we have trained from around the country said it was the hardest test they ever took. It involved 4 areas: Situational Judgment, Personality Assessment, Personal History Data, and Cognitive Abilities.
In regards to this year’s exam, the test content to be used will be dictated by the results of the Job Analyses and the test plan. Civil Service recently stated that:
- Applications are expected to be available in early July.
- The new written exam is planned for the fourth quarter of 2026.
- Candidates will be rank ordered as a result of the written exam and placed on a hiring list.
- A required physical performance test will then be given starting with the top-scoring candidates.
- The physical performance test will be pass/fail and will have no impact on the ranking.
In order to prepare candidates for the 2026 firefighter entry exam, Bernstein Test Prep is offering a series of paid seminars.
