The $750 deposit is to secure your spot in our 2019 CPD sergeant’s police promotional review course. If you pay the deposit before February 1st, your balance will be $1,450 ($2,200 minus $750 = $1,450). If you pay your balance after February 1st, the balance will be $1,750. The full rate of $2,500 will now apply ($2,500 minus $750 = $1,750).
The option to make a $750 deposit will no longer be available after February 1st, 2019.
To pay the $1,450 balance, we will send you an invoice via PayPal, our payment processor. The invoice will give you an option to pay off the entire balance or just make a minimum payment of $750. The invoice will be emailed to you via PayPal by the first week of December. The remaining balance of $1,450 should be paid on or before February 1st, 2019. If the balance is not paid by February 1st, the full rate of $2,500 will take effect. This would mean that $300 will be added to your balance of $1,450, for a total of $1,750.
2. When should I begin my course of study?
After January 1st, you should begin your preliminary course of study. I will have specific recommendations for your study plan right after the new year. No need to study during the 2018 Holidays.
3. When will I receive my training materials that are on the CPD sergeant’s reading list?
Once the test is announced and CPD issues the actual reading list, we will put the notebooks together. On January 18th, 2019, we will give you online access to a 100-item diagnostic exam. We’ll also include study tips that will help in your preparation. In February and March, select audio files will be available for your smart devices and reading assignments will be given. Although the formal reading list won’t be out for a while, we have a good idea of what will be on it. All Bernstein students will get regular information updates.
4. I’m already a sergeant, and I’m interested in signing up for the lieutenant’s exam review course. Where can I sign up?
Lieutenant candidates have two options. First, you can wait until the year the lieutenant’s exam is to be given to sign up for our comprehensive lieutenant’s review course. Second, you can register now for the sergeant’s review course to study in advance. When our lieutenant’s review course is given, you will automatically be registered at no additional cost. The second option is recommended. Not only do you get two full review courses for the price of one, you also get the study materials and a chance to prepare for your lieutenant’s exam a year in advance. It’s been our experience that those who study with us in advance, always have higher scores.

6. What can I start reading now?
The City says the sergeant’s exam is tentatively planned for late fall / early winter of 2019. That’s about one year away. So, we recommend you start slowly in January of 2019. January will be here soon enough. However, if you feel the need to read something now, click here for some previously tested areas.
7. How do I access the online learning center?
Our review course will start with online access to a 100-item diagnostic exam on January 18th, 2019. Once your course fee is paid in full, we will email you the procedure. You will then be able to create your account for the online access. For those of you who have only paid the deposit, you will need to complete your payment in full, before you can access the diagnostic exam and the online learning center materials. Important information will be provided every month, right up until the exam!
